Interview with Maddie McGraw – Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Maddie McGraw is our newest pediatric nurse practitioner here at People’s Center. Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Maddie to ask her about her accomplishments, what inspired her to become a pediatric nurse practitioner, and how she found her way to working at People’s Center.

What made you want to become a pediatric nurse practitioner?

“I always knew I wanted to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. I saw a pediatric nurse practitioner growing up and loved going to the doctor because of her! I enjoy being around kids and helping parents feel confident in the care they are receiving for their children”

What is your greatest professional achievement?

“Yet to be determined! But graduating from practitioner school and passing boards felt pretty great.”

Can you describe a typical workday?

“I get to see kids of all different ages. Babies, school-age, teenagers, and young adults! I get to see kids that are coming in just for routine checkups and to stay up to date on immunizations as well as acute care visits like ear infections, rashes, and any other concerns that they or their parents may have about their health.”

What made you want to work at People’s Center Clinics & Services?

“I did most of my clinical hours here while I was in practitioner school and knew that if I were to do primary care this would be the clinic I would want to work at. I love the population we work with here at People’s Center and feel passionate about providing equitable and culturally sensitive care to children and their families.”

What is the best part of your job?

“The families I get to work with! Helping kids feel comfortable when they come to the clinic is a great feeling. I like to give kids the confidence to ask the “doctor” questions and know that it’s not a scary place. I also feel honored that parents are trusting me with their child’s care. It is a privilege to work with all my patients and their families!”
